Disclaimer: These pages are not actively maintained, and some of the practical information on the site is out of date. I am working on a new version of the site that will focus more on my photos and memories of travel in Southeast Europe, and less on practical details that too easily become obsolete. In the meantime, please treat the information here with caution.
Mainland Greece :: Links
In contrast to most other countries covered by Balkanology, I have not investigated even a handful of the thousands of sites devoted to travel in Greece. If you need to know more, the first site listed (Greece Travel Guide) should point you in the right direction. Many of the more general sites listed in the Overview of the Balkans are also useful for planning a trip to Greece.

This is one of IYP's newest ventures, but the format will be familiar to fans of their guides to Eastern Europe cities.
Transport and Practicalities
-
OSE - Hellenic Railways Organisation
Timetable and fare information for Greece's domestic trains. The site appears to undergo frequent redesigns, becoming a little more difficult to use each time.
-
Greek Ferries
Database covering both domestic and international ferry routes, with online booking.
-
KTEL
This site formerly had timetables for buses throughout Greece. Unfortunately this service has been withdrawn, and replaced with a premium-rate phone service available in Greek only - a strange situation for a country with significant earnings from foreign tourism. This makes advance planning of bus journeys in Greece rather difficult. The gap is partially filled by websites run by provincial KTEL organisations, local authorities, and local tourist organisations, each of which provides information about a small subset of bus routes. There is a very useful list of these sites on the Living in Greece site.
